Ideas for a minecraft mod?

Post  LudicrousYoshi on Sat Dec 08, 2012 5:53 pm

I'm in a small high level computer course at my skewl with 4 other kids and we all play minecraft. Since the course we are taking used to be an AP course but is no longer supported by college board due to lack of AP computer teachers, we are able to blaze through the curriculum and will be done at the end of our first semester.

For the second semester my teacher literally told us we can learn/do whatever we want related to programming, so the 5 of us were like "WE NEED MAKE MINACARTFA MOD" and he's like "Idk what that is, but yeah sure!"

We were all stunned he actually said yes lol

So now im lookin for ideas for the future mod which we will probably start working on around the end of january/beginning of february. (It probably won't be a server mod fyi)

Try not to suggest things that there are already mods of! Literally share all of your ideas please!

Hmmm.. I know theres already ones like this around, but ones that let you do something with the ender egg would be cool, like hatch it and have a tameable one. Theres forsure something like that, but you could make it much different. Or make a whole new world like the end/nether, or redo the end in that enderdragons are all over the place, and different colours/looks make them behave differently. For example, red dragons are medium difficulty to kill, and can be tamed, while black dragons are very difficult to kill, and cannot be tamed. Yellow dragons are friendly and wont attack on sight, but will if prevoked (Like pigmen) and can be tamed easily. The harder the dragon is to tame, the better it is in that they go faster, harder ones can breathfire, etc. (By tamed i mean rideable, etc.) I think it would be cool to do something like that.

Is there a mod that spawns a couple random villagers in villages wearing iron armor, and you can right-click with gold ingots and more or less 'tame' them? Then they follow you around like wolves and shit, and are pretty much tameable bodyguards Razz Probably one already out there tho, just too lazy to look. oooo, and another is wear you can choose a super power when you first start a new map (If this is for just singleplayer) and you have to save the world from an evil super villain!! OOOOOHH, you can make a custom map with your own mods and themes and music and........OOOOOOOOOH MAKE A MOD WHERE YOU CAN SELECT A MUSIC FILE AND UPLOAD IT AND HAVE IT PLAY!!!! THEN PPL CAN RECORDZ THEIR OWN VOICES AND YOUR MOD ALLOWS DIFFERENT MOBS TO SPEAK!!!! :O

theres prolly already a mod for that too tho........................

Haz another idea: Claycraft!

You can craft miniature ppl out of clay, and they do your bidding. but, this is more focused on building and resource gathering. So, there are three groups of clay men you can build: Miners/gatherers, builders, and warriors. The miners will mine an area all the way to bedrock, and deposit any resources they gather in chests. You can set the area to mine with little markers. This is sort of like the technic mining well, but with little clay ppl and less complicated. The builders then take the resources from the chest, and build stuff. The cool thing you can do is add some type of project bench, where you design a building or structure on a table, and when youre done, the builders will build it for you using the resources mined by the miners! The warriors are pretty straight forward, and can either follow you around, or sit in one spot, but they attack any hostile mob in a certain radius. Ik that there is a mod for clay ppl, but this one goes more in-depth with building and resource management Very Happy

lol, i said ik that there is a mod like this already. Ive seen it used. I wanted one that focused more on automatic resource gathering and building things you want to be built, not just pre-designed templates

;p most of the good mod ideas are already done Razz There are forsure mods out here like this, but from what ive found none of them are done very well. I was thinking you should make a mod that enhances pvp. This can add more attacks, like lunge etc, and adds more weapons, duel wields, more ranged items, (javelins throwing knives better bows) and stuff like that, also sheilds would be cool

well, there is my project i was going to work on all summer. buttt.... How bout you make minecrafts gui fully customizable? For instance. the main menu buttons can be changed around and re sized to your liking. or the advanced hud idea but take it a step further. with being able to put multiple parts from other texture packs into your own custom one, like the crosshair from zelda pack, the item bar from realism pack and so on. make it be able to change in game. basically make minecrafts graphics how you want them to look. You guys have seen what i have done to my computer i am a customization freak. nothing is perfect the way it is for more than a month. so incorporating that into minecraft would be amazing. looking at the same bland layout of my item bar on the bottom sucks. lets make it have a different texture and put it above. things like that. you could also add uneccesary but cool things such as a compass that you can move and drag around with possible different skins for that such as an arrow always pointing to north ect. but not everything would be customizable, for instance the options. none of the options would be able to change for the fact of if you change it and it decides to not work then your screwed. You even said with the fact of you not being able to move everything around at once in advanced hud, Make that available.
edit: i made it all red cause white makes it kinda hard to read dunno why

Id like to re-iterate that i will be just one of 5 people choosing what our mod is so even if i like it, I can't say thats what we'll do. I will definitely propose some of your guys' ideas tho!

Well, you can do it either of two ways:

The first is you see the map as you do in Civ, from above, so everything is smaller in comparison. This wouldnt be as fun tho, cause its just Civ in mc form, which is basically bad graphics, squares for every spot, and there are creepers that blow holes in your empire. Not that great

The other idea is you have it on a semi-real life size, where you as the player are as big as the workers and units you have. The cities though cant be that huge, cause the cities in Civ can get rlly big, especially in the modern era with skyscrapers, and all the wonders. If those were real life, itd be hard just getting out of one. Also, that would make limiting the city to a single square (Like in Civ) damn near impossible. So you can have just miniature versions, and you can watch it grow from the start. The workers and units would be your size, you it seems more like you being a leader for real instead of some omnipresent deity. You know how in superflat the land is only a couple blocks before hitting the void? Thats what this would be, but throw in some hills, mountains, trees, etc., and you can have a map. You wouldnt have to mine, cause all the materials you would need would be on the surface. So coal, iron, gems (Emeralds, lapis) would be right on the surface. Heres the cool part. You can go interact with these yourself, and bring it to your city for a temporary boost, as compared to your workers (or yourself) building a mine there and keeping that resource forever. You can give workers and units commands by right-clicking to select them, then right clicking again on an object or another unit for a list of commands. To go over long distances, you can enter creative mode (or another fancy in-game name for it) where you can fly over to wherever you want, and this gives you a more over-head view of everything so you can keep track. Building improvements and buildings and units now takes minutes, and not turns. I think this would be an improvement over just doing stuff for a day, then sleeping to end your turn, cause it gives an actual feel of progression, like days are going by. It also gives more continuity of mc, without taking away from the time it takes to build in Civ. Idk which Civ you would want to model, either Civ IV or V, cause they have different styles and stuff, and im basing all this off them cause ive only played these two. Anyway, back to dynamics. You would gain culture and gold and science per day, just to limit the amount of minutes you have to keep track of. From your worker building a mine to your capital creating the Pyramids, all the minutes it would take would be overwhelming. You can create enemy civilizations, which operate just the same, and you can trade and stuff with em, go to war, etc. The fog would be hard, so i think a good idea would be just to set the render distance at a permanent spot. Also, when the player goes into creative and can fly, be sure to not let them just fly around and discover everything. For barbarians, I suggest just making a spawner to create mobs until it is destroyed, and put some chests around to give some incentive to the player to destroy them.

Last couple things. Idk if the tiles on which you can build improvements and cities should be only one or a bundle of em, like 2x2, so as things dont seem too small. And idk if the units are bound to them as before, or they can free walk. Cause if they are bound, then shouldnt the player themselves be bound? Idk. I think this could be a very cool mod, since we can switch between over-head general and another worker/fighter on the ground. I just think it could be rlly fun
